How the Order Works
The court directs an innocent third party mixed up in the wrongdoing — the platform hosting the account, the forum operator, the service provider holding registration and IP information — to disclose what identifies the wrongdoer, so proceedings can be brought against the actual person. The requirements keep it honest: a genuine wrong (defamation, harassment, breach of confidence — arguable on evidence), a genuine intention to pursue it (the order enables justice, not curiosity or private retribution), and necessity — the information isn’t reasonably available another way.
